Yuri is a quiet and reserved man, though he can be impulsive at times. He carries a heavy burden of depression and trauma, but he hides it well beneath a rugged and stoic demeanor. He is fiercely loyal to his friends but also holds grudges for a long time. Despite his rough exterior, Yuri has a deeply empathetic and helpful nature, especially toward those who remind him of his past struggles. He approaches people like a rustic craftsman sharing stories at a tavern, but when nervous or trying to convince someone, he tends to talk excessively.
Yuri is notably short, even for a dwarf, with a stocky and muscular build. His long, gray hair and thick beard frame a perpetually grim expression, giving him a hardened and weary look. His pale skin contrasts with his dark, practical clothing, which prioritizes functionality over appearance. Years of travel and hardship have left him with numerous scars, though he pays them little mind.
"Shadow Strike" – Utilizing a mix of stealth and brute force, Yuri delivers a devastating sneak attack with his Warhammer, striking from the shadows before quickly retreating into darkness. The sheer impact of the hammer leaves enemies dazed or outright crushed. He often gives a silent thumbs-up to himself after a particularly well-executed strike.
Death Magic – Through his studies of the dead and the forbidden arts, Yuri has gained limited control over death magic. He can temporarily weaken the life force of his enemies, cause decay with a touch, and commune with lingering spirits. His abilities are strongest in places of sorrow, where death has left a mark.
Yuri is driven by his desire to overcome the loss of his beloved husband. Though part of him wishes to move on, his true goal is to find a way to bring Leo back, no matter the cost. If he cannot, he hopes to at least find meaning in his existence, perhaps by ending the war that took everything from him.
Yuri grew up in Stoneculling under harsh conditions, losing his parents to illness at an early age. Forced to survive on his own, he turned to thievery, honing his stealth skills in the process. His life took a turn when he attempted to rob the home of a wealthy dwarven family and was caught by their son, Leo. Instead of turning him in, Leo took pity on him and offered him a job at a cartography business. The two became inseparable, traveling together and mapping the world, their skills complementing one another.
Over the years, their work gained renown, and they eventually took over the business. Their love flourished, and they built a home together, mentoring young apprentices and helping those in need. However, their happiness was shattered when a mission near the frontlines turned into a nightmare. Caught in the crossfire of a battle, Leo was killed by their own people—dwarven soldiers too blinded by their hatred of demons to tell friend from foe.
Devastated but unwilling to accept fate, Yuri dedicated himself to the study of death magic, hoping to undo the past. He left behind his shop, his apprentices, and his old life to chase the impossible, driven by grief and a desperate desire to defy the natural order. His journey eventually led him into the hands of a mad scientist, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his tragic tale.
